LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE
After many years of study, undoubtedly, there’s a positive effect in learning a second language, even when learning can depend on many factors :
Biological & Psychological: Age, motivation, self-esteem, anxiety, introversion, extroversion, personality
Cognitive: Intelligence, language aptitude, learning styles, strategies
Affective: Attitudes
Learning a second language stimulates brain development in areas such as memory and the ability to associate, which increases the level of sophistication in learning, perception, and attention.
Andrea Mechelli, of London University College states, “Those who learn a language after age 35 experienced positive brain transformation compared to those who speak only one language but not as pronounced as those who learn in early age.”
There are also incidences of positive alterations at the brain level for those who are bilingual.
Having a second language, socially and culturally, opens access to foreign cultures and socially allows a more open-minded concept of the world. A second language can open the window to a vibrant, exciting world that many have yet to see.
Motivation, as a factor, is an element that brings the student closer to a second language. Interests may vary, whether it be professional or cultural, etc. Generally, the motivation factor in children is provided by the parental or family environment. The awareness or stimulus for wanting to learn a new language can be highly influenced from the type of motivation the parents promote.
The learning methodology utilized by CONEXION will bring the student closer to the language in a fun, inviting, and stimulating process, that “connects” the student to the language. These first “connections” create the motivation and set the foundation for learning a second language.
Our teaching methods have developed from many years of knowledge and experience working with children and adults, and based on our studies of Psychology, Literature and Spanish. This has allowed us to develop the system we practice at CONEXIÓN Academy of Languages, with very positive results. Our ultimate goal is to teach Spanish in the most enjoyable way, and to create a pleasurable experience for all our students.
